With forty years of travel to the far corners of our world we have encountered many guides. Like most travelers some have not been very good, some decent and the rare few that are outstanding. During our three weeks in China last month we encountered just such a rare individual. Our guide in Guilin was a young women named Ping (I'll provide her email later). Ping demonstrated knowledge and command of the history, stories and culture all along the way. Beyond that, Ping exuded infectious enthusiasm not only for our touring, but for us personally as well. We had a serious medical issue occur suddenly, in fact one of us went into diabetic shock. It was four in the morning but no matter, after calling Ping she took command and arranged for the hotel to send us, with a car, driver, and assistant to a hospital. Upon our arrival there was Ping who obviously thru on some clothes, got on her motorbike and rushed to meet us. There she not only served as translator but as though a family member, she became invested in our proper care and recovery. Truly remarkable to have such a person supporting you. In small ways she flavored her guiding with a sense of our interests and preferences, like the day we mentioned our love of pomegranates and the next morning there she is smiling and with samples for us as a treat. When we left a jacket behind, once again was on it as Ping arranged for its shipment to out next stop and tracked it until it was in our hands. Beyond that, Ping was in frequent contact to make certain of our full medical recovery and to offer her help where or whenever it might be needed while in China. Amazing! Ping can be contacted at bellakanas@163.com Sheila Hertz, Howard Entin

I am a tour leader from Italy and this was my first cooperation with Janet and how lucky we met her!! We followed the trip with her to remote areas in China including some ethnic group area in Guizhou province and Sanjiang, Longsheng and Guilin, we enjoyed completely throughout the whole trip and some arrangement even out of our surprise, like we went to Janet’s home to learn how to pack Chinese Ravioli, she invited a Taichi teacher and we had a 1 hour Taichi class inside her home community. Everything was fine and our group members are all like her very much. We strongly recommend Janet Chan (janet@topchinatravel.com) as your China trip consultant! She is so considerate and carefully planned each detail of our trip. Guizhou is a very interesting and primitive place for visiting, you should include in your China trip as well! Thank you Janet! You are very professional!!

We did a private tour of Beijing and the Mutianyu portion of the Great Wall in October. The company seamlessly put together the tour for us (graciously making changes to accommodate our preferences) without any problems. All the staff I dealt with (Joyce as the organizer and Sisi as the tour guide) was absolutely fantastic. Very kind and knowledgeable people who goes out of their way to make suggestions to ensure the most amazing experience you could possibly have. I wholeheartedly recommend this company for anyone wanting to travel to China. Truly an amazing company!

My girlfriend and I just returned from our first holiday to China, and we are very satisfied with the service Top China Travel provided.
Our trip included visiting Hong Kong (own arrangement), Guilin, Fenghuang and Zhangjiajie and was very spectacular!
Our organizer Janet Chan was very helpful in the months preceding our trip and was able to tailor our itinerary to our needs and budget.
TCT provided knowledgable, English speaking guides with attention to our specific wishes.
Drivers were always nice, polite and experienced, although they did not speak English (which was not necessary, as the guide was always with us to translate).
We also enjoyed good help in traveling between places in China by means of public ground transport (buses and trains), which is very well organized in China and is recommended above flying both in terms of comfort and price plus you see more of the country.
We were able to get the best out of our stay in China thanks to the service of Top China Travel and would heartily recommend this agency to everyone who is planning a holiday to China!

It's been a few months since I finished our 11 days (23 Dec-3Jan) private China tour arranged by Janet Chan from Top China Travel. The trip consists of the following cities: Beijing - Hangzhou - Suzhou - Shanghai - Guilin - Hongkong. I really need to thank Janet for her patience towards the schedule changes and all of my custom requests for driver transfer to dinner etc, and even for restaurants booking. In addition, I also found their price to be the best compared with the other competitor. All of our local guides (Sunny in Beijing, Summer in Hangzhou, Isaac in Suzhou, Ryan in Shanghai, and Jay in Guilin) were all helpful, flexible, and very accomodating. They even explained in both english and chinese since my parents can't understand english. They even add some objects here and there so that we can enjoy most of our time in China. They also recommend all of good restaurants in each city. All of them were really good, we even had the best porridge and liu sha bao while we were in Guilin.. Overall, we really enjoyed our time in China, and I didn't expect the trip would be so easy with TCT. Once again, thanks Janet Chan who enables us to make the most of our holiday. Can't wait to plan another trip to China with TCT.

Our family, along with some friends (eight of us in total), recently traveled to China using Top China Travel (TCT) as our travel agent/tour company. We painstakingly planned the trip with TCT's Janet as our adviser and logistics planner. Janet did an exceptional job with our overall itinerary, inter-China travel, local guide selection, meal and activity planning, etc. Her attention to detail and personal touches, such as providing a surprise birthday cake for one of our fellow travelers, or providing a bottle of champagne for our Great Wall visit, made the trip special. We did a traditional tour of Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin/Yangshou, and Shanghai, and also squeezed in Zhangjiajie, which was one of the major highlights of the trip. Along with seeing/experiencing most, if not all, of the major attractions in each area, our itinerary also included a calligraphy class, a cooking class, and three entertaining shows. The schedule was quite aggressive but all of our TCT guides were very accommodating and flexible, Sometimes the crowds were extremely challenging, or sometimes we simply needed more time to eat or shop, etc, and each time, our TCT guides simply worked with us to make sure we were happy. Sean in Beijing and Lisa in Guilin/Yangshou were exceptional. We can't say enough about their friendly personalities, professionalism, knowledge, language skills, and organization. We highly recommend TCT and Janet if you're trying to make a decision on a Chinese tour company. Everything about our tour from the initial planning to the tourist site visits/activities/meals was first class, highly professional, and extremely friendly.

If you ever go to Beijing try to have Likun Sun or Li as we called him, as your guide. He is very professional, very knowledgable and also good fun. His English is very good, so no communication problems, and he goes out of his way to make sure you see and do everything you want to. We went to Gubei Water Village, to Simatai Great Wall and on to Chengde, where we visited the Imperial Summer Resort. Li suggested we took the shuttle bus which took us around the huge grounds with several photo stops with fantastic views. An excellent suggestion as there was no way you could have seen so much on foot. Then we visited the Putuo Zongcheng Temple and Quingchui Mountain. Li was able to tell us all about the history of the temple, explaining its origins. From there we drove to Shanhaiguan Area to see the First Pass Under Heaven, Great Wall Museum and where the Great Wall ends/starts in the sea. Again Li was a fount of information. But the thing we really appreciated was being able to find out so much about not only Chinese culture and history but Li told us about everyday life. Unlike many other guides Li had a professional career which involved travel abroad, and when he was forcibly retired at 60 he retrained to become a guide. His previous experience gives him a perspective and depth of experience you don't get with younger guides. He tells you about life in China past and present from personal experience. And best of all he is so very enthusiastic about being your guide, for example, finding out what you like to eat and making sure you get it!

Our family of my wife and I plus two children and their families worked with Top China Tours on an 11-day private tour. The result was a smoothly run tour with excellent guides, good buses and well handled air and rail journeys. The 5-start hotels were top notch. Our family of 8 had a fantastic learning experience going to Beijing, Xian, Gulin/Yangshou and Shanghai. We hit the usual tourist spots, but Janet, our tour director also included smaller sites and special events to enhance the private tour. She was excellent at adding flexibility to the tour so that one couple went on a pre-tour Yangtze cruise, and the family with two children got to Happy Valley park so the kids could experience a Chines theme park. Overall the whole family had a great travel experience thanks to Janet and the others at Top China Tours.

My husband and I and our friends--another couple that we have been traveling with for over 20 years--decided on China and Hong Kong for this year. After doing a significant amount of research, I contacted Top China Travel and spoke with Rebecca, who remained our trip advisor and who helped me design a highly customized trip. Rebecca was AMAZING!!! She is excellent to work with, very knowledgeable and highly professional. Over the course of our trip we visited 5 cities: Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Shanghai and Hong Kong. In each city, we were greeted by a guide at the airport and taken to our hotel by our private driver in very comfortable vans. The hotels were beautiful and the sites were all wonderful. All in all, we had a glorious time on this trip; expertly organized and very accommodating to our specific and personal needs. This is a great company and I recommend them most highly!!!! A word about our Guides: they were all EXCELLENT and truly made our trip more enjoyable. We received remarkable attention; our guides were always one step ahead in planning our itinerary in the most comfortable way. We learned a lot from all of them about the fascinating history of China and all the beautiful sites. And always with a smile!! I would like to make mention of one Guide who was EXTRAORDINARY!! HER NAME IS TING AND SHE WAS OUR GUIDE DURING OUR STAY IN SHANGHAI!! Ting was very personable, knowledgeable, forever cheerful, and used her expert knowledge of Shanghai to really give us an inside view of this glorious city!! I recommend her most highly!! In Beijing, our Guide was SISI (hope I am spelling the name properly!) She was also truly wonderful and gave us a great tour of the city!! Sisi really knows her history!! Similarly our guides in the other cities were excellent as well. Our drivers were all very good as well. All in all, this was a fabulous trip!! As highly seasoned travelers, we have developed discriminating tastes in travel. When we are ready to return to China to see more of this beautiful country, I will not hesitate: I will call Top China Travel immediately!!

We went on an 11 day Private tour organised by TCT to Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Cruise on Li River and Shanghai. Everything was so perfectly and professionally organized by Bonnie. Prior to the commencement of the holiday she was so helpful and responded very promptly to all our questions and requests. The tour was perfectly tailored to our taste and we have seen and experienced more than what we expected. The Guides were very knowledgeable, especially Christina in regards to her proficiency in English and the knowledge (Sabrina – Beijing, Christina – Xian, Jay Guilin and Alice Shanghai). They were very helpful and went out of their way to help us and make us happy. At times communication became somewhat challenging though, it did not significantly affect us. They recommended very pleasing, fantastic and one of a kind shows that left memorable impressions on us. We highly recommend TCT to anyone who is planning to have a tour in China. Thank you Bonnie and the team for the wonderful and memorable holiday. Gamini & Wijitha

Ms. Christina is very proficient in her English and knowledgable of the city of Xian and Chinese history, which made our trip to the terra cotta warriors and the museums much more engaging. She is easy to converse with and very nice company. She suggested a traditional Chinese show with a hot pot dinner that were both mediocre but a good representation of the history of traditional China. Both lunches that were part of the itinerary were really delicious and lots of food. Xian is a great city lit up a night, beautiful buildings and gardens. Safe to walk around and they have underpasses for pedestrians so you don't have to cross the main road. We did a bike tour on top of the city wall that was very bumpy, but nice early in the morning - it started getting crowded after 10:30am. Our hotel was in a great location with a nice coffee shop in the lobby. Xian was a nice historical city with a great tour guide!

We chose TCT for an 11 day/10 night private guided tour trip through Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Yangshuo, and Shanghai. Janet helped us plan and finalize the itinerary for our trip via email and phone communication and was very accommodating and helpful during the entire process. She also kept in contact with us throughout the trip to make sure that everything went smoothly and to our satisfaction. For the city guides, we had Merry in Beijing, Christina in Xi'an, Ji in Guilin/Yangshuo, and Leo and Sara in Shanghai. Each of our guides were helpful and informative and made sure that our needs were met along the way, and all of them were flexible with any last-minute requests or issues that came up. Special mention also for our driver Mr. Ai in Beijing who always made sure that we had water and that we got to our destinations on time regardless of the traffic situation, and likewise with Ms. Luo in Shanghai. Our trip overall was very action-packed and we were able to see almost everything planned on our schedule including some last-minute inserted locations which was a plus. We had a great time visiting on our first trip to China, and would recommend TCT for anyone looking to looking to plan their own trip there.

Tour developer Yocky and tour guide Leo did a great job introducing me to these 2 cities. I loved the Acrobatic Show and also the night boat ride on the Huangpu. The skyline of Shanghai is a riot of color and movement at night! And the gardens! Leo's English was very clear and easy to understand. I also appreciated his willingness to "open up" and tell me a little bit about his family, his life, his history, his routine. I would recommend a private tour with a guide and driver and if you're in Shanghai ask for Leo to be your guide!
